But, Mike, when PC attacks, PC is no longer hidden (has to break cover), so no Advantage. Right? I'd allow it – assume sniper peeks around tree or keeps to shadows, though I would disallow it in this case if NPCs are attentive

Issue is that the PC uses a bonus action to become hidden during the same turn. NPC has no time to move to investigate. I see that as a classic misdirection. Happens all the time in FPSes – scoot around corner, come back at a surprise angle

In Destiny, for instance, you might duck under cover then leap over it as opponent closes to surprise them
