Idly curious, Matt. I run ToTM bc my game doesn’t have complex combat mechanics and aims for immediate clashes, but D&D 5e very much does like conventional “tactical” engagements. How do you handle ToTM for big classical D&D set piece battles? In such scenarios, small diagrams or using simple markers for general distance reference can help in larger scale conflicts. There are scenarios where TotM can break down a bit, and you just enhance with tactile visuals when needed.

Ah. So essentially “zone” style play? (I.e. “second floor balcony”, “ground floor”, “canal,” etc?) Aye, that’s a solid way to do it!
