*Re. #dnd5e mechanics:* how are monsters rated with respect to their abilities to hit monsters immune to non-magical weapons, or weapons less than +1, +2, +3 (etc.) enchantments? Thanks.Some creatures are resistant or immune to damage from nonmagical attacks. That respects any magic at all, regardless of the bonus to hit and damage (which many magic weapons don't have, e.g. flametongue).

A monster's attacks are magical if it's using a magic weapon, if it has the "Magical Weapons" or a similar trait that says its attacks are magical, or if the attack is a spell attack (as listed in the action, vs. a weapon attack).

Are the claws of a dragon able to harm a werewolf or a spectre? Dragon claws are not magical by themselves. A dragon's claws can't hurt a werewolf, and will be resisted by a specter.

OK. So 5E does not have a set of mechanics rating non-magical monsters on their ability to harm others that are immune to non-magical attacks. This seems a bit odd. That is handled by the "Magic Weapons" trait that some monsters have. Or the "Angelic Weapons" trait angels have.

Basically if you want to hurt werewolves, you need to use silver, legit magic, or something other than weapons. Dragons are gonna be okay. 😉
