2015 Fun Fact: There are two lines of thinking about names. There’s the concept of a true name—a sound that somehow encompasses a person’s essence. And there’s the “what’s in a name?” idea, that a name is irrelevant to the essence of a person or thing. There is undeniable power in being able to choose your name. It matters what people call us. This quote, attributed to Confucius, is I think the one that inspired the title of "The Truth of Names": "If names be not correct, language is not in accordance with the truth of things."
