Do any of ya’ll have homebrew rules for learning new languages in D&D? The system in the DMs guide almost functions like a software patch, versus a mental skill that you learn gradually, and I’m not down with that. The Player's Handbook downtime activities Training option allow you to learn a language or tool proficiency with 250 days of study, and 250 gp to a teacher. (PH pg. 187)
That better approximates getting a useful handle on a completely new language.
