I love that old D&D leaned into alignment so much there were actual alignment LANGUAGES. Imagine your dad sitting you down and saying, “Son, I saw you bullying your sister just then and I want you to know that I’m proud of you. It’s time to teach you how to speak EVIL” The thing is, for all its weirdness, I quite like it. No D&D setting I can think of fully embraced the idea of mortals torn between alignments. Imagine if night hags snatched you away after your first act of evil and taught you the language of evil in a dark cave underground…

Or, if after putting your life at risk to uphold the law, a legendary paladin appeared to you in dreams and taught you the language of Law. Common folk could recite a few Good phrases, like Latin mottos, and everyone knows Chaotic swear words, but true mastery must be earned.
