Skill-based events should have natural results for failures rather than a hard limit, but you can use the idea of limits to help DM results.

Also a good option – RP for success on some – hadn’t really considered that (always learning some new/improving). For example, if you piss off the duke with what you roleplay saying, that's moving in failure's direction at least. @Zhern75
