It was a great idea but was poorly executed IMO. I think they needed to do something more radical with the rules but that was a big step to take back then.

I completely agree. It was a groundbreaking product. It is easy to throw stones at it from our present perch. That was not my intention at all. However, to do something like that for 1e, it would have to be before stats are rolled and then effect how stats are rolled thereafter. Yeah I don’t think they were ready to do something that radical in a module. Maybe in Unearthed Arcana, but not a module.

I read 'Greyhawk Adventures' 0lvl rules by @jamesMward : 9 pages, very detailed system and quite simple. There are also rules for 0lvl in 'Eberron Morgrave Miscellany' by @HeyRuty smart and easy.
