It's interesting to think what you could do with the game if you didn't roll damage – flat damage has more dials to play with, frees up flow

Example – maul does 4 damage, and roll to knock foe prone; handling time and complexity are about the same

Yes; the number of rolls made certainly has an impact. More complex from the DM end as greater range of weapons unless statblock includes itI'd probably gate it with a fighter-only feature
