Are there any #dungeonsanddragons #dnd5e players who just….can’t do voices? I’ve just always felt so self conscious I’ve never attempted them
Any tips on it? Honestly, voices are but one of many tools in a toolbox, and really not necessary. Even just changing your physicality can create unique, immersive NPCs! Where you hold your shoulders, arms, head, etc. Also, simple asseccoroes (shawls, glasses, etc) can make for a fast change.— Matthew Mercer (@matthewmercer) May 22, 2019
If you DO want to learn more about voices, just practicing variations of your vocal timbre and texture while driving alone in the car is fun.
Accents can be a nice bit to play with, but by no means required. If you want, the Internal Dialect of aenglish Archive is great!

What would you advise for someone who is… uncomfortable… with their voice, but really wants to DM, despite that? Like, I’m trans, but haven’t been able to start transition, so my voice is one of my masc. traits I dislike. Would practicing voices for NPC’s and such help that? It’s very possible! I can’t speak on each individual’s experience, but practicing voices other than my own helped me become more comfortable with my voice. It may help you find one you feel suits your table presence. <3
