As a GM, I sometimes stray from the rulebook. And take adventures in directions not noted in published campaigns. It's ok.
In other words, I use RAW or published adventures as the starting point for any improvisations necessary to enhance the game. How about you?#rpg #dnd

Same. I often weave in original or DM’s Guild one-shots as side quests that tie to the main story, but I’m also prepared for my players to go off script completely.

The prep I try for (but sometimes forget) is to have a list of names ready for when the PCs decide to quiz a random NPC about something… including the NPC’s name 🙂 Yep! I have a name and NPC generator on standby, too!

I love using one-shots to build around. Right now I am fleshing out a loose campaign around the Uncaged Anthology adventures, in the style of the Xena series. Very episodic, but with a bit of a through line to tie the adventures together. Looking forward to running it soon. Sounds fun!
