At 11th level and above, a battle may be deadly if the sum total of monster challenge ratings is 3/4th the sum total of character levels. Or equal to the sum of character levels if they’re 17th or above. This gauge paired with your monster dials approach works so well for me. Ive got players levels 1-7 in 2 different games and you’ve really helped me to easily plan encounter difficulty.

But 32 1/8cr kobolds will really f*ck up a group of 5 level 5 characters.. A fireball takes out like 18 of them.
