Best advice for dealing with a PC death, when the player feels the death was cheap (vorpal) and is physically grieving the loss of their character? First talk about it as real folks above the game. Listen to each other, talk about your feelings related to the death and why you feel the way you do. Make a plan for how to handle such an event in the future. Second D&D has lot of ways to bring back PCs from the dead.

If there's a good reason why another person might bring the PC back, let it happen. Maybe the sword is extra magic and keeps the head alive for questioning and it can be reattached to the body. Maybe a villain raises the PC to tempt the others into a rescue/trap.

Talk to the player, and work out a way forward together. What would help bring them back into the game and rekindle the fun? A new character arc? A grand resurrection quest? Also, check out this video by @mattcolville. https://t.co/QB0JAszWpi
