In the game Pillars of Eternity kickstarter backers got thier name on a memoriam, and an npc in the world that if promted would reveal a player generated backstory. I bet Wotc could do a successful charity event auctioning off various parts of Faerun and having PC’s be the NPC Lords and Ladies, villains etc.
