Can you attune to an item if you haven’t identified it? That always stumped me. Or stuff that’s passive like +1 sword—does it need identifying to use the +1? It’s not like it’s “off” either way. You don’t need to ID an item to attune your it, but sometimes that can be a risk depending on what the item does.

What about using an item you aren’t attuned to? Like what happens if you swing a +1 sword that needs attunement. If it requires attunement, you need to attune to it to get any magical benefits unless the item’s text says otherwise. Hazirawn from Hoard of the Dragon Queen, as an example.
