Seen a few people ask why race rather than class provides ability bonuses – ideas in D&D 5 was to make pathing as easy as possible for new players. Races are meant to be very accessible/pop culture driven. They then bridge into class via stat bonus, making that choice easier.

Sub-races serve two purposes – give races more flexibility without adding too much conceptual complexity. They also are a convenient place to plug in elements needed for settings – I adore how @HellcowKeith used them for dragonmarks in Wayfarers Guide to Eberron.

Agreed. Actually, thinking back, wasn’t detect magic just part of being trained in the Arcana skill, back in 4e? We wanted to avoid it becoming spammy, where every damn thing the party found got hit with detect magic. In testing, it caused a noticeable slow down in play.

yes, but since they are unarmed attacks use the monk’s unarmed damage. claws and bites are not part of martial arts training.

@JeremyECrawford Dispel Magic says "Choose one creature, object, or magical effect within range." Is it possible to choose a magical effect on a creature (e.g. Bless) without targeting the creature? Or is the intent that you choose a tangible/perceptible effect like Web?

Dispel magic can target a discrete magical effect on a creature or an object, provided that effect is choosable. In other words, you have to be aware of it to be able to choose it as the target. #DnD https://t.co/WESHPeWoF4

So you could remove a spell like Slow without removing other spells on the creature if you’re aware they’re under the effects of the Slow spell? That's correct.

Last question: if you targeted the Slow spell directly (as opposed to the creature) in that situation, would it end for all other targets too or only that one creature? Just for the creature. The target in this case is the magical effect of slow on that creature, not the entire spell and all its targets.
