Morning tea musings: D&D has metallic dragon species, like silver and gold, right? They have bronze dragons, and brass dragons, but brass is not a naturally occurring metal. It’s an alloy of zinc. But there are no zinc dragons! WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?!

Oh, that's a SECRET.
(Seriously. A lore secret, dating back to the days of TSR, and Dave Sutherland. Not mine to spill.)#Realmslore— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) November 20, 2019
I am geeking out so hard on this right now. >.> Heh. What I CAN share is the reaction of a certain TSR higher-up. Who said in response to DCS, "Aaaand even the g-d kitchen zinc. When it comes to dragons, some people have to beat an idea to death with a stick." ;}
Which is why there are no published official zinc dragons. ;}— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) November 20, 2019
:: chuckles :: I know that I’m going to throw a zinc dragon at my players next session. 😉 Its breath weapon: a storm of endless tumbling (metal) kitchen sinks…

Because zinc isn’t associated with money as the other metallic dragons are. There’s some preachiness about greed there.
youve posted this already but with chris perkins’s reply, they are not made of metal, they are silver and gold colored
Either:
1. It’s used to describe the colouring of their scales and it is not actually what they’re made of.
2. Zinc is toxic to bacteria and there would be no treatment accessible or known to a dragon
I’m more inclined to believe the first one
How about Tungsten? It could have damage reduction as it’s big schtick… Or how about a world ending Uranium dragon?
It breathes sun protection. Vampires have been known to raise zinc dragons in order to enable going about in daylight after taking a blast of zinc oxide breath.
