@mikemearls hey Mike. Big fan of you and huge fan of 5e. Do you think, in your personal opinion, that gary would like how far D&D has come? Or would he think it's too complex compared to the original idea?

I dunno … look at Gary’s own later designs with Dangerous Journeys and Lejendary Adventures. Both allow for extreme character customization. Even Gary's own speculation about 2nd Edition (Dragon 103, Nov '85) he talked about adding more specialized sub-classes, specifically mentioning mystic (cleric), savant (magic-user), and jester (bard).

I wonder how much of that was based on what people told him they wanted, versus his own preferences. I know he found 3e to be too superheroic and video gamey.
