Drop an interesting location as the characters travel from one main place to another. So, the DMG has a list of monuments on their random tables, which is nice.

However!

I highly recommend combining different monuments together. Oh, look, it's a Mount Rushmore but the heads are talking! And each one's mouth is a portal to another plane!
