Here’s a #dnd house rule I use which fixes the drama-sucking effects of bad dice rolls for BOTH players & DMs while still feeling fair (1/?)At the start of every session I have each player roll 2 Fate dice. Each + they roll earns them 1 reroll they can spend as they choose. (2/?)

Each – result they roll on their Fate die earns me (the DM) one reroll *I* can spend as I choose. (3/?)
So, if the players have bad dice karma, they can spend a reroll and give it another shot. Likewise for the DM if the monsters stink it (4/?)— Bill Cavalier (@dungeonbastard) October 4, 2016
@dungeonbastardThus we ALL have some agency when the dice go sour. I don’t rankle at their rerolls and they don’t call foul when I drop one either (5/?) I can see some appeal in gambling, but why not give a fixed pool. When players spend that pool, they pay into the DM pool.

@dungeonbastardThere’s a big psychological advantage to the idea that the players’ rolls determine the DM pool. Also my players don’t like karma exchanges. Got it. It's a neat idea.
