Question for fellow DMs/GMs.
How much (if at all) do your players come to you with plans/ideas/desires for what they want to do/achieve in your game sessions?

I actively encourage it! I greatly enjoy the co-facilitation of story. I tend to play with highly mechanical players, so I frequently challenge them to justify game choices with story and then share those thoughts with me, so I can weave them into the narrative.

Not very often I typically have to explicitly ask for what they want to do/achieve

To be honest, it's a bit rare! Usually I'll ask them specifically or put out a player survey that asks a question like this.

Almost never. Would you like them to?

That’s a good question. It’s an interesting one eh?

I always encourage my players to take an active role in what they want to do, as far as story types or even specific story goals. I leave plot hooks out there to see which ones grab their attention, to develop into actions for the future. Complications will arise, of course.

Not a GM but playing in a long term campaign and two of us live with the GM. We do it frequently. If there’s a particular setting or plot in play we tend to have ideas for things we’d like our chatacters to experience and achieve. We’re encouraged to have personal goals IC What about say, if there's a plot going on, do you make "plans" for the next session? Like; "We want to talk to NPC X and find out more info on the Tomb of Lillies"

My players don’t. Not at all, I don’t think. But I try to communicate that I’m open to it, and my group’s other two DMs allow it.
Maybe I’m too intimidating. I can’t say for you group, but some folks do just seem to want to turn up and play, making decisions in the moment but having a structure/narrative put in front of them! Don’t be too hard on yourself! I struggle to get stuff out of my players too!
