@matthewmercer I'm curious, how much of your dungeons' layouts is planned in map form? Are you leaning more towards "theater of the mind" style with exploration?

I only lay out possible combat encounter spaces with terrain maps, and the rest is drawn notes for my reference. The exploration I prefer to be Theater of Mind. I find it engages my players more. https://t.co/PhuRh2Ived

How do you feel about theater of the mind combat? I know you guys have done it for some smaller encounters, but have you ever run campaigns with no battle mats at all?

It’s actually my preferred method of combat! Used it for most of my games through the years. However, I find it best works with smaller groups. With 6-7+ players in my current game, the battle mats/minis become a huge help for spacial awareness. https://t.co/Eumk3lNd89

As someone with aphantasia, which means I can’t see pictures in my head, maps or VERY explicit descriptions are very important to me. Aye! It also ranges from group-to-group as well! Some prefer minis/maps, which is rad! Hell…I need to get use out of this ridiculous mini/terrain collection
