Sorry to bug you but I’m curious how using a magic item that doesn’t have a set DC works if you are a race with an ability to cast a spell?
E.G, Using a Mask of the Beast as a Genasi. Could I use Con to cast Animal Friendship or do I need the spellcasting feature? DMG pg. 141 has your answer under "Spells."
If an item lets you cast a spell and doesn't set its own save DC, it uses your spellcasting ability modifier, if any. If you have multiple, you can choose which to use. If you don't have one, you treat it as +0.

Your genasi can use their Con to set the save DC.

How do you determine if you can add Proficiency when you don’t have access to a spell casting class feature, such as the genasi race or the +0 examples? Covered in the same section
