As a DM, I have trouble deciding which PC for my monsters/NPCs to attack. Random selection? Whoever hit them last? Cruelly focus down the squishy wizard? What about that monk with Patient Defense?
Any advice would be super great @ChrisPerkinsDnD @JeremyECrawford
Thanks!

Consider the monster’s intelligence and present state of mind. An ogre will probably attack the enemy right in front of it, or the one who wounded it last. A beholder would choose its targets carefully until its bruised ego causes it to act irrationally. #wotcstaff A common error among DMs (even experienced ones) is to make monsters and villains omniscient. Just because *you* know the cleric should be taken out first doesn’t mean the balor will act accordingly. Even smart bad guys can make ill-informed decisions. #wotcstaff
