I really don't like flanking in 5e.

I should say that I don’t like the optional rule as written. I did create my own variant, that basically turns the Help action into a reaction. It was interesting because some folks thought it was OP, turning Help into a reaction, but flanking is free and costs nothing. https://t.co/jf5vLw9ioy

I don’t like how easy it is to get, and how big a bonus it provides. I think in future I’m just going to grant a straight +2.
I’d prefer a more tactical game though.I’ve been tempted just to add an extra d4 of damage for flanking, rather than adjust the hit chance. How threatened areas/opportunity attacks work in 5e makes the whole thing too easy though, IMO.

Oh I like that. Though now it's like Everyone Has Sneak Attack, which even stacking that d4 with the Rogue's d6 just means the rogue's Cool Ability is now just A Better Version Of What Everyone Has.

True, but thematically flanking IS sort of the same thing. You manoeuvre yourself into an advantageous position and get a “backstab” perk. Rogue just does it better.

What do you mean you don’t like the conga line of advantage?!
Nah, I feel you. It can feel super forced, unrealistic, and clunky at times. And it's too good and easy to not go for! My desire to win gets me every time.

Then just stand on the outside of combat. Get a ranged attack, for gosh sakes.
