If there is one D&D Forgotten Realms villain most capable of “winning” (think Thanos in MCU), which D&D villain would that be? There's so much Realmslore still unrevealed that would draw far different answers than I'm seeing here, and expect to see.*
If we're not leaving out deities, the answer is clearly Jergal, because he's already won (according to his lights), though few have noticed.#Realmslore— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) May 1, 2021
*=for instance, some villains have very good PR; most of the Realms doesn’t think of them as villains at all.
Until, heh-heh, it’s too late. Amazing insights as always Ed! Thanks for humoring my question! I must ponder on your answer now… 🤔— Anthony Joyce (@Thrawn589) May 1, 2021
The better villains do the magicians' "Astonishing, what I did in my left hand, yes? Well, you should have been watching my RIGHT hand, fool."
The better villains never taunt or point out; they just do with their left foot what you should REALLY have been watching.#Realmslore— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) May 1, 2021
Be careful what you ask, bwoohahahaha, and so on and so forth… ;}
Y’see, some personalities need the big splash, the world trembling and knowing what’s happened…and others prefer succeeding so subtly they’ve hoodwinked most mortals.
Or as Elminster put it: “Some…..ache to be the center of attention in a room, and others see that ache and think: ye IDIOT."#Realmslore— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) May 1, 2021
I have to go with Vecna.
His introduction into 5e in Rime of the Frostmaiden makes me think he will be the first big bad of the Forgotten Realms Extended Universe. Vecna? Really? When I have both of his hands, AND both of his eyes, here in the end parlor? ;}
And someone's peddling fake ones to the world, and Vecna isn't seeing a thin copper from any of them? ;}— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) May 1, 2021
He's mellowed.
My hand-feeding him chocolates probably has much to do with that.
A blind lich with no hands misses out on a lot.
He LOVES the talking books I bring home from my library job. (Especially period romances [!], which quite prevents me from being terrified of him.)— Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) May 1, 2021
