Mike Mearls talked about trying to balance a Summoner class a while back. I don’t believe with the current rules you can get a proper summoner. Okay, this line of thinking sound cool. And I agree that the summoning conjurations in the PH won't give you a great character focused entirely on summoning. Let's get on the same page. What is your definition of a proper summoner?

I'd say a summer would have to have the ability to summon and control multiple creatures at once. Also having special abilities that focus on buffing their summons. Or, sometimes like Final Fantasy, one big ass summon that kicks ass. But that is where archetypes come in handy 😉
