If you insist on underground-dwelling trpg species having no pigment or eyes, but don't also insist that your exoskeleton-having species go through molting periods where they lose their natural protection so they can have a squishy growth spurt, I'm terribly disappointed in you.

Coming across a molted shell in a dungeon can only mean one thing: It’s bigger now. Eeeek!! *alien breathing sound in the distance* Metroid Fusion did this EXTREMELY well with the molting Omega Metroid 👀

Bless you.
Also, 15% of energy goes to having pigment and eyes, I learned! WHY WASTE IT?!?!

Necromancers animating thri-kreen exoskeletons.
Thank you for this The Castoff, a secret society of robed and wrapped beings that come during the Molting to collect your shedding, so they can be preserved and properly hallowed.

Dude that reminds me of when I was a kid and cicada season would hit! We used to grab the little shells and stick them places bc they looked like real bugs. Now I want to add a bunch of molted shells to a bug monster's lair and have it spring out from one unexpectedly.

Ohhhh Dan I dearly want to play this nasty thing now 👀

Agreed!
Though I do love my dragonborn and kobold PCs complaining about their molting, and I’ve run one shots based on the adventurers getting some special pumice stones to help a spa that runs free molting care sessions for injured/elderly scaly folk! Love it
