In your alternative initiative system, how does initiative modifiers factor in?

In your alternative initiative system, how does initiative modifiers factor in, such as from the Alert feat (+5 to initiative)? I'd reduce a die one step in size per +2 bonus, so reduce a die two steps or two dice one step each
