#dnd tip for player management: DISCLAIMER: Players don't fit neatly into categories or labels. Any labels or types I use are for discussion purposes only. These are often most useful when DMing for strangers. (1/4)

Today let's talk about the INSTIGATOR. (This is my most prevalent trait as a player.) INSTIGATORS revel in forward-moving action: not necessarily combat, but in pushing buttons and seeing what happens in the game and in the story. (2/4)

INSTIGATORS may have limited patience for slow-paced games with a great deal of planning, and may need reminding that other people's preference may not match their own. They are often great, however, at helping keep a quick pace and lots of wonder. (3/4)

Remember that INSTIGATORS will push buttons, in game and sometimes out. If you need a lever pulled to spring your master plan in your game's story. Put it near the INSTIGATOR. But if you want something safe, you may not want to place it before an INSTIGATOR. (4/4)

I've done both. And I've been on the other end of the reminding as well. Sometimes its simply a matter of giving them something to do while others plan or talk. Passing notes, for any type, can sometimes help.

Does the OOC passing notes kinda put them out of the game or take the wind maybe out of their sails kinda? Would it be more immersive to have an in-game character roll with it since for most part that’s the purpose of the game, roleplay and roll play? Depends on the situation. If others want to plan but instigator wants action, I can sometimes let others plan and give instigator 1-1 attention. But if the other players need my focus, having the instigator write a note gives them something to do.
