There’s plenty of room for exceptions to this pithy generality, as some critics of this thread have pointed out. I’m not saying don’t write if you can’t play. Paraphrasing some of that criticism, what I mean is that playing can give you valuable insights. And I get that playing can be hard to do, especially if you're freelancing as a side hustle. I don't mean to imply you can't or shouldn't work on a game if you can't or don't play it. Add to that time crunches, social anxiety, and so many other factors.

But I do recommend playing if and when you can. It's also cool as eff to see something you worked on in action. But that's another angle.😉
