#dnd tip for encounter creation: mechanics should support story, and story should flow from mechanics. True in combat, but also in other aspects. Can the characters find the location of the secret meeting? What checks or spells get that info? How hard to do? What if they fail?

What if they *gasp* roleplay in a clever manner? That's A-OK. Definitely don't let mechanics get in the way of fun.
