@matthewmercer if I could pick your brain, I have been wondering in terms of handling your players multiclassing. Is it a case of them multiclassing due to the direction of the narrative or do you mould the narrative to fit to them choosing to multiclass?

It’s mostly me listening to them and working some of their comments/desires into the narrative. If they exhibit interest in a particular path, I might begin to tease story elements towards it… if they pursue them, then the choice to multiclass is theirs to make! https://t.co/79R59UEMhZ

Even so, I would never force it on them. Even if it was a sudden, unexpected decision, I’d do my best to try and provide narrative reasons to justify the alternate path in progression. It’s a challenge I enjoy taking!

So could Travis have taken another level of warlock but with the wildmother as his patron if he wanted, rather than multiclass? If he really wanted to continue his path into a Warlock, he would have probably had to make amends with Uk’otoa, or find another patron. The Wildmother was a Paladin path (we discussed it a bit as the narrative was looming). Either way would have been fun!

Had he chosen another Patron, would you have made him restart the Warlock track or would he just take that next level? I would have allowed it to continue at the current place. 🙂
