I think one of the hardest things as a DM to decide is whether or not to allow a player to retry a failed task, or even how long until they try again. It isn’t an obvious answer- at least, not to me – for it changes the nature of the game. #dnd I agree whole heartedly and typically lean on mental fatigue as reasons why non-manual tasks (ie. Not lock pick vs searching for traps) should or shouldn’t be repeatable. When I play, I never ask to repeat. The failure is usually just as interesting.
