What do you think about an optional class feature that lets D&D rangers expend a spell slot to imbue a few pieces of ammunition with elemental magic?
Paladins can expend them to smite. How could would it be if rangers could do the same thing to create cold or fire arrows! 🔥🏹

Folks have mentioned this isn't very good for melee fighters—you're right!
Maybe the alternative let's you coat a weapon with elemental energy for a little while, but each hit deals damage equal to your PB. It's not perfect; I'll have to chew on this a bit.

I do want that additional resource / spell slot pipeline for rangers, modifying their attacks but also for setting traps / debuffs Traps would be cool. Feels very hunter-y and appropriate.

I thought about maybe letting them coat a weapon in elemental energy for a bit, or apply it to a hit, but it feels too similar to the smite or elemental weapon spell. I'll have to think on it!
Maybe they coat their weapon for a minute, and it does damage equal to their PB.
