Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of using Potions as a bonus action in #dnd 5e 🤔?
I’m not convinced to use this homebrew rule The narrative concern is "it doesn't make sense to spend an action drinking a tiny amount of liquid." I'm sympathetic to that.

The mechanical issue is "These are spells in a bottle, sometimes more powerful. Are you okay with turning them into bonus actions?"

I have drinking potions as bonus actions if they are yours, standard if using one on another. This is often as there might not be a full time healer, or one at all. I can see how it might be a problem with easy access to tons of potion types, but not a problem in my game world. Definitely many variables change up how it works, and if you have no one readily able to bring healing to bear that can be an okay solution.

#dnd tip: Avoid denial fights. Players want their characters to do stuff. Ok, this brings up an issue I have.

What about subclass features that're difficult to implement?

For example: Spores Druid, from the Ravnica book. Subclass relies on Poison damage.

But soooo many creatures in D&D are outright immune to it.

What do you do in that scenario?

Symbiotic Entity adds poison damage to melee weapon attacks, but honestly, you're a druid. That's a ribbon. It ALSO doubles Halo of Spores' damage and gives you temp hp. Those are its primary functions.

The Halo of Spores definitely deals necrotic.

I overlooked Symbiotic Entity because I don’t really consider the melee damage a feature. No player is playing a Spore Druid for the melee buff. They are playing it for Halo of Spores and for Zombie making. Correct.

There's something to be said for being careful not to design features that just fail.

There's also something to be said for remember that even at tier 4 there are plenty of creatures that still take poison damage.

The more I play #dungeonsanddragons, the more I’m loving the *role-playing* aspect of it. I’d assumed that wouldn’t interest me as much as the *game* aspect, because I’m an actor; it’s what I do for a living. But the opportunity to create & be my own character is so fulfilling.

I always enjoyed playing my “alter ego” – or what I suspect it was. How about you? It was kind of my “mirror universe” self There are aspects of both Grafinas & Bartolomy that feel like I’m getting to express myself & behave in ways that I wouldn’t necessarily do in my life. Like a prism effect of me. That’s often the case with characters I play, but it’s different here because I’m creating it all.

I’ve been told because I do improv that I will really connect with D&D.I think that’s very true. I think in some ways the challenge for improv actors playing DnD would be to realize they don’t have to be *on* & *perform* as much as they would in a show. It’s more about *being* & allowing things to unfold. Does that make sense?

The role playing is the hardest part for me! I love to play but I feel like it’s taking me a looooong time to understand who my character is as a person. Any tips as to how you get into the right mindset? (I had the same problem acting in school plays, come to think of it!) I think it’s important to try to drop into the soul and mindset of your character. Think about turning up the volume on certain aspects of yourself and turning down the volume on other aspects. Dive in an trust that you’ll feel more comfy as you just go for it.

Can someone please reword the bonus action spell casting rule for easier understanding?
I keep messing it up somehow 🙄You can cast a bonus action spell of any level, plus a one-action cantrip.
