Was the Centaur climbing penalty being an extra “4 feet” an intentional pun? Yep! James and I giggled when we settled on that. 🐎

Seems like centaurs should be large creatures. Horses are large. Unless the centaurs are like pony size

In D&D, some horses are Large (warhorse), and some are Medium (pony). Similarly, some centaurs are Large, and some are Medium. #DnD https://t.co/h8LtYBgpKP

There’s really no reason why centaurs need to be medium sized creatures, Jeremy. It’s silly. You'd prefer them to be Large, I take it. Why is that?
— Jeremy Crawford (@JeremyECrawford) May 15, 2018
1 it’s not “a race” of centaurs. It’s centaurs. There’s a consistency issue
2 horses are large so centaurs must be as large or larger logically
3 an adult human top on a pony bottom is kind of a silly looking concept
I don’t think it ruins the build or anything it’s just oddThere are three horse stat blocks in the “Monster Manual”: pony (Medium), riding horse (Large), and warhorse (Large). Horse does not equal Large.

can I play an elf centaur? Is that a thing? Your centaur can definitely have extra pointy ears! 🧝♀️ 🐎

OK, so this is quickly getting absurd, but here's my quick and dirty Photoshop exploration of centaur size. Here's a horse and rider (from https://t.co/URl6fnIW6R). Scale bars added, putting the horse at about 16 hands (5' 4" at the shoulder). (1/4) #dnd #wotcstaff #mediumcentaur pic.twitter.com/lZIXHHE5aP

Here's the rider alone, a little under 6'. Allow for some error in putting the joints together after I cut her up in pieces. (2/4) #dnd #wotcstaff #mediumcentaur pic.twitter.com/C3pdRXyO0Z

If you posit that a centaur is a human-sized human torso on a horse-sized horse body, here's what you get. (3/4) #dnd #wotcstaff #mediumcentaur pic.twitter.com/Lk3XKDaNTP

But if you scale the horse body to look like you probably imagine a centaur looking, it's a lot smaller: 4' at the shoulder, and less than 5' from front of the horse's chest to the back of its rump. (4/4) #dnd #wotcstaff #mediumcentaur pic.twitter.com/meTtP6hC5h

For the record, I *really* wanted centaurs to work as a Large race. I am now an enthusiastic convert. #dnd #wotcstaff #mediumcentaur
