so the symbols of the Houses are all things like unicorns, gorgons, chimeras, etc. Things I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a published Eberron work. Are these actually mythical creatures or are they simply very rare on Khorvaire? Most of them are DANGEROUS creatures; you're not going to have a hydra or chimera wandering around Sharn. But griffons and hippogriffs are part of the Race of Eight Winds, cockatrices & basilisks are used by Daask, and Kundarak uses manticore cavalry. They're all out there.

In some cases the house has a direct relationship with the crest creature, such as Kundarak or Ghallanda (blink dogs are found in the Talenta Plains and often help travelers in trouble). Others are chosen for their symbolic traits: the unicorn is swift and teleports, thus Orien.

For others, the sigil beast was chosen just because it seemed cool. The gorgon is, essentially, a steel-skinned bull; early Cannith thought that was clever.
