Hi, I was reading up on the Zhentarim throughout the ages and noticed on page 151 of the 4e FRCG that one of their remaining bases in that era was Wyvernwatch. Does this refer to the location in Four From Cormyr to the NE of Gnoll Pass? I mainly ask bc the fortress goes unacknowledged on both the FRCG and the Backdrop: Cormyr (from Dragon #365) maps, and plumbing through the archives seems to indicate that beyond that offhand mention it doesn't come up in 4e material and seems to be dropped as a Zhent base in 5e

I wish I could give you some insight on that. I was hoping a search of my own files would show it appearing in an article or some other one-off. But I failed to discover a match. Apparently, they had a small base there, but it didn't last.

Unless I miss my guess, the most likely suspect is a relatively young steel dragon, mighty in magic, who is still alive but no longer a dragon, and much invested in destroying such threats.

Ed, I know the rule of “no direct real-world analogues” for the home Realms, but I have to ask; are you sure there wasn’t just the slightest wink-n-nod in naming between FR Thay (far exotic land of magic & mystery) and “RW” Cathay (far exotic land of magic & mystery)? Oh, yes, you're quite right.
Thay was indeed my wink-and-nod to "Cathay." Signalling that this was as close as the Realms was going to get (when it was just my story setting, before D&D existed).

All of those are "Craft." They aren't considered "weird"/touched by the gods, but rather the work of human skill and at-the-bench innovation. Whereas the Gift to handle magic is considered given by the gods, not something that can be learned or gained by repetition.#Realmslore

In the Realms, the Art is arcane magic. Not everyone can learn it, no matter how much access to written spells, material components, and training they have.
Like being born with perfect pitch (for music) or not, some individuals have the Gift (ability to wield… 2)

What is exactly Table Magic? And can people without the Gift use it? Yes, folk without the Gift can use Table Magic.
It consists of placing particular substances (of specific sizes and shapes) in the proper relationship to each other, on a prepared surface upon which glyphs and lines are chalked. This calls on the Weave to work magic.#Realmslore

HI. Is Spellfire “Raw magic” the same as Silver Fire “pure weave” magic? Yes and no. Same stuff, but if spellfire is a gout of flame raging up out of a bonfire, silver fire is a precisely-adjusted blowtorch flame (specific shape and temperature). Spellfire is raw Weave energy, silver fire is Mystra-granted ability to channel the Weave.#Realmslore

I remember you speaking on silver fire being able to damage and/or destroy Larloch due to his Lichdom and prevent him from escaping to the weave to reform later. I assume that Spellfire would be more damaging and same result. Yes. More damaging as it's like a flamethrower rather than a blowtorch.
A blowtorch's flames go pretty much where you want them to, but a flamethrower sprays a far less precise area.
So spellfire's more damaging to the local Weave, whereas silver fire's more surgical.#Realmslore
