Mordenkainen Tome of Foes
More Dwarves!
We are talking more about the dwarves with dwarves gonna say we were created by our
God our God wanted us to exist because
they he sculpted us literally breathe
life into us and let us son into the
world we are his children in the sense
of we were created with you know purpose
to emulate our God
and that’s why dwarves are really
creatures of toil they love to work – a
dwarves life has purpose you’re born you
have a vocation you fulfill that
vocation your vocation could be metal
smithing it could be warfare you could
be like my vocation to be a soldier to
protect the clan to protect the
stronghold but every dwarf has a purpose
and that’s really where that lawful
element comes in being lawful good you
know as the typical dwarf yeah we think
the stereotype little war if their
lawful good they’re good in the sense of
they care about the community they care
about other creatures and their
lawfulness since they have a very strong
sense of order if you know if they’re if
you if dwarves existed in the modern
world they would be the the people who
like really obey etiquette if you gave
them a gift they’d always send you a
thank-you note right on time
you know they’re very orderly and they
say this is how we do things and they
kind of have a point because they say
you know to a dwarf or this is how we do
things because this is how Morden taught
us how to do it and wardens a god and
one does not normally tell gods to sod
off right you do what the God tells you
to but they do it at a sense of love
Morden did it be in being a good God he
imagined evil a lawful evil God would do
it to keep someone in line a lawful good
God does it because Morden looks on his
children and says this is what’s best
for you and I really mean that I’m not
just saying that because I want you to
act this way I’m saying cuz if you
follow my dictates you will be safe and
you’ll be happy and you’ll be fulfilled
and doors are generally fulfilled by
long hours of hard work to them it is
just it satisfies a very primal need in
them and that’s why you get the sense of
dwarven Citadel’s being these enormous
you know
always adding to them always building a
dwarf isn’t satisfied just in an
environment that is just static they
always want to improve it there was want
to add to it they always want to grow
they want to prosper they’re really
probably the most driven of the folk but
the same time that points out the
fundamental contradiction that
underlines dwarves Dwarfs build kingdoms
but unlike humans they’re not conquerors
they don’t rule vast swaths of land
because at the end of the day while
dwarves like order and they like work
they like works that exists on much
smaller scales a dwarf wants to improve
her skills she wants to become a better
metal Smith she wants to become a more
skilled warrior there are dwarves who
rule dwarfs have kings and queens and
Nobles
but being a lawful good the children of
a lawful good God and having societies
that exhibit lawful good traits they see
their leaders as being more caretakers
you know a dwarf a good dwarf King looks
after his people and wants them to
prosper he doesn’t have ambition he
doesn’t look across from you know the
the the highest point on his dwarven
Citadel and think would it be great to
conquer the area around us to what end
you’d be risking the lives of the
Dwarven warriors you’d be pulling the
Dwarven Smith’s away from their actual
work to maybe produce weapons or armor
or to fight it wouldn’t it doesn’t it
just wouldn’t compute to the dwarves
they are very happy being left alone to
pursue their their their calling that’s
what they that’s what they want to do
you know at Wharf metal Smith would be
very happy if she could spend her entire
life doing nothing but getting up in the
morning and working on metal smithing
and becoming better at it and producing
more and more beautiful goods the now
the one exception to that is family the
clan child rearing towards also see it’s
incredibly important the family is very
important to them that the one thing
that does override their sense of pride
in their craft is their pride in their
children that the marriage is very
important to them having children
sustaining the clan ensuring the line
continues because it’s not only just a
legacy of you know if I’m a dwarf and
I’m a meddlesome
and I have my skill it’s also the skill
I then hand down to the next generation
who I then guide and hope that with my
guidance my example they bring their
skills up even farther they become even
more skilled they surpass what has been
done in the past two dwarves one of the
worst things that could happen them is
if they lost a secret if the dwarves
knew how to out of had a shape out of an
tine and lost that secret David they
desperately want it back because to them
that’s all we’re losing ground you know
and in many ways what the doors want –
it drives them as they want to live up
to the talent and the skills showcased
by their creator and then the other
deities the Dwarven Pantheon that that
also said specific examples Morden is
essentially is the best in everything
but there are other dwarves who showcase
very mastery of specific skills that the
dwarves emulate it also shows why
similar to the orcs in some way the work
society is very driven by religion you
know if you had an orc raised away from
or society could just be whatever they
just grew up maybe whoever they want
because so much of what they are we
think of them and traditionally how we
deal with them in the world of deity is
driven by how their society is shaped by
their religion and how their religion is
shaped by their direct relationship with
the creator deity thank you Mike Merle’s

The Infernal Options in Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes
In our latest preview video, learn more about the fiendish options in "Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes": the blood war one
of the greatest conflicts in the D&D
multiverse and so naturally because of
having a whole chapter on that we wanted
to make sure to also include in the book
a number of fiendish options so that
chapter includes options for various
diabolical and demonic cults it provides
new tiefling sub-race options which we
previewed versions of an unearned Arcana
it has ways to customize Camby ins it
also includes in the bestiary a number
of new demons devils and yuga watts we
wanted to provide stats for some of the
most powerful participants in the blood
war and so we have statistics for a
number of arch Devils and also for
everyone’s convenience we have brought
the demon Lords who appeared in out of
the abyss and put them in this book as
well so essentially if you if you wanted
to have a big versus match you could
have the demon Lords versus the arch
Devils all all in one book now when it
comes to the options in the blood war
chapter that are specifically for
players we delve into ways that your
tiefling that you play could be shaped
by a connection to a particular ruler of
hell now T feelings are not the children
of those rulers but they can be shaped
by the fiendish influence of the
particular rulers and the layer of hell
that those rulers are from and so as
people son on earth are Kanna
we provide ways of customizing your
tiefling to say well mighty fleeing is
somehow connected to Memphis tahvalli’s
and because of that I have a different
different magical options from other tea
flings and a number of these options
have been tweaked as a result of play
test feedback we go
after the unearthed Arcana so we do
similar customization things fork
ambiens in the monster manual there is
the cambian and that can be and is
really meant to represent a creature
that is the offspring typically of a
mortal and a succubus or an incubus or
or a or a fiendish being like gratz or
any other fiendish power that tends to
be beguiling and sort of a tempter we
decided we wanted to provide cambian
options that would represent better a
being that instead was the offspring of
maybe a fiendish creature that is not so
beguiling that maybe is more more about
brute strength or some other quality and
so again we give you this ability to
swap out certain abilities in the
Monster Manual tiefling I’m sorry the
Monster Manual cambian to associate that
cambian with either one of the great
powers of the abyss or one of the great
powers of the nine hells the cult
options people also got to see a bit in
unearthed Arcana and here we give you
ways to customize the members of
infernal cults that is cults dedicated
to the powers of hell by giving those
cultists different abilities that will
make the members of one cult feel
distinct from the members of another one
as people saw an under Cana many of
these options are meant to build on stat
blocks you already have for example the
Monster Manual in its NPC appendix
includes a cultists taplok and a cult
leader snap-loc so we give you abilities
that you can basically plug into those
stat blocks to make them come alive as
members of a particular cult like here’s
alright this cult is dedicated to Belial
or this cult is dead
dissipater and because of that
association this Cultus has this
particular power then a member of
another cult does not have so we also do
a similar thing for cultists and just
followers in general of demon Lords in
our Demon Lord and into a demon cult
coverage it’s a little less organization
specific hell being the plain of lawful
evil is all about organizations and
despite being evil really likes things
to be tidy and hierarchical and so cults
are a natural fit for arch Devils and
their minions many demon Lords also have
cults but as beings of chaos there are
also just individuals who dedicate
themselves to the forces of the abyss
and get filled with its dark power and
so we provide options again not only for
members of demonic cults but also some
of these remarkable terrible individuals
who have been blessed in some way by a
demon lord
so put all of these together the book
provides a lot of tools especially for
the dungeon master to really customize
villain groups that the player
characters can go up against some people
have wondered are these cult options or
demonic boons are they meant for player
characters the answer is no they’ve been
designed for NPCs and from monsters a DM
could probably customize them to work
for player characters but the target
we’re aiming at is basically here’s how
to make some bad guys who really bear
the marks of these evil Plains that they
have pledged themselves to when it comes
to the monsters in the bestiary
I mentioned you have some really big
bads in the form of the arch Devils and
the demon Lords we also provide new
rank-and-file demons new rank-and-file
Devils and also array of new you
loss to complement the ones in the
Monster Manual you go las have always
been particularly interesting to me
because they pull the strings in the
blood war and they play both sides
against each other
you Galatz also in some ways you can
bargain with more easily than you can
Devils or demons because they are beings
of contracts and beings of agreements
now they will try to turn them against
you they have this in common with Devils
but it’s actually conceivable that you
could work for a little while with a
lugal off until you discover how it’s
been playing you for its own nefarious
ends and so the book goes into a little
bit as well about Google offs their role
in the in the blood war and also how
mortals get entangled with you Galatz
at various times like and like with the
devils and demons a number of the you
goth stat blocks that we provide are in
the sort of mid to high CR range and
that’s a theme in a lot of the bestiary
is to provide stat blocks to help
populate dungeons and other environments
at higher levels of play there are still
certainly low level Losey are rather
monsters in Morden Kanaan’s Toma foes
but we felt that between the monster
manual and Volos guide to monsters the
game has a lot of monstrous options for
lower level pcs so we thought time to
beef up the higher end a bit and and so
these fiendish options are part of that
