There have been many questions recently about whether or not there will ever be a full psionic class in #dnd. Jeremy Crawford spoke at some length about it on Dragon+ yesterday, and here’s the high view answer to that question: He goes on to remind that until 2nd edition's Complete Psionics Handbook, there was no psionic class. It was a power that any character could manifest.

@Dan_Dillon_1 is the intention that you'd just find the magic needle and then once its identified be able to give yourself the tattoo. I always think of the "magic tattoo artist" but they don't seem necessary for these

You use the needle which becomes the tattoo, yes. Probably a tattoo artist involved in the creation of the needle and its tattoo. Magic tattoos that work like normal tattoos are a gigantic nightmare for a number of reasons, so we'll see how this approach takes.

With this approach to tattoos, a combination of reskinning spells (tattooist supplies are artisan's tools, artificer friends) and features is a snap.

If you want to double down and design a unique subclass around the concept of tattoos distinctly, you still can, of course.

I wasn’t thinking mechanics so much as story-wise, two warlocks each with (rival) genie patrons. Right, that's what I mean by functional differences. What does it mean to be one instead of the other.
