Also, it caused quite a ruckus, and was pulled back by TSR to get destroyed because the illustration had been approved through a series of trickster moves and “fixes”. Tensions were high at TSR then, can’t remember the details but it was the beginning of the end of the First Age. The art got the module pulled because the heads on the monsters (ubues) were the heads of senior TSR staff. Gary was not happy.

Actually Gary wasn’t offended. He thought it was funny. Kevin Blume on the other hand was worried it would affect toy sales… The manuscript also had some technical problems which helped it to get scrapped namely you couldn’t get from level 1 to level 2…
