#dnd tip for adv. design: you're creating a game AND a narrative. Games are machines where inputs are generally expected to lead to predictable outcomes. Narratives often follow expected forms. Subverting one in service of the other can be fun; overdoing it is problematic.

I try to run shorter and limited campaigns, so I develop the campaign as I design that adventures that will make up the campaign. It generally takes me about 80 hours to create a published 4-hour adventure, but that includes planning, writing, editing, layout, playtesting, etc.
