Hey everybody, this is Chris from Warchief
back in October, we
unveiled our company.
We reported that we were
hard at work
on our first big tabletop product.
So I’m very pleased today to
announce what it is.
And show you guys a little bit of
what we’ve been up to.
So our product is called:
now,
“Auroboros” is an old word.
It’s usually symbolized by
a serpent devouring it’s own tail.
And that concept is core
to a fantasy setting
I developed with my friends
for our AD&D campaign,
that we ran from the mid 80’s
to the mid 90’s.
Our team here at Warchief, has
translated and recreated
that setting,
and updated it with all the history,
the factions, the locations, all of it
for the modern system
of 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons.
So the content of our sourcebook
take place in the realm of
Lawbrand.
And Lawbrand is essentially
a confederation of what we call
trade cities,
highly urbanized cities
that are all linked by
a common commerce
and unified by,
a singluar
religious institution called:
The Church of Sularia.
And the church keeps order
between all these cities with
really stringent laws and codes.
Kind of like,
lawful good gone crazy.
As a sourcebook,
Auroboros is filled to the brim with
lots of details about
the history and lore of Lawbrand.
But, what about the rules?
This book contains new
races, subclasses,
magic items, backgrounds, and much, much more.
We’ve also designed an expansive set of
adventure themes and countertables
and other tools to help
kickstart your party’s adventure.
And, beneath it all
is the Auroboros itself.
The world serpent.
The Auroboros is a primordial power.
It is,
life and death.
It is,
growth and degeneration.
It is,
enlightenment and madness.
All lives,
all moments of history
are reflected in it’s scales.
So this power
can be wielded by mortal creatures
but often to calamitous effect.
You can attain dizzying heights of power.
You can
shatter mountaintops.
You can cure whole villages
of disease.
You can
warp reality itself.
But there is a high cost…
Ultimately leading to,
madness and death.
And really, that’s
kinda where things start
getting really interesting…
As a system,
The Mark is not just a source of power,
it’s also the spark
for a compelling narrative.
When you use The Mark, your power grows…
but so do the consequences
as the serpent devours you.
As the danger of losing control increases,
your party really has to consider,
“Can they trust you?”
“Can you trust yourself?”
The big idea being that,
you know we all have our,
fears and misgivings.
We have behaviors,
that we feel are these
cycles that we just can’t escape.
But often, in confronting those fears
in moving through those cycles,
and breaking them,
it’s a kind of rebirth.
And to me,
that idea is what the symbol
of the Auroboros is all about.
And we wanted to develop a system
that resulted in deep player psychology.
and it stands alone, also
from your normal level advancement.
We’re excited for players
to explore this world of
mystery and adventure.
