Vigilant Guardian doesn’t seem to specify a duration. How long should it last?

One minute? Until a short / long rest? It lasts until you designate a new target for the effect. It's only useful if you are in line of sight of your ward (to spot threats) or within 5 ft for the secondary effect. But essentially, you're an expert bodyguard and can focus your talents on one person at a time.
