Hey Mr. @JeremyECrawford
A fellow DM friend and I were discussing the if the centaur counts as being mounted at all times. Specifically for the use of one handing a lance. Could you clarify?— Jeremy Wright (@jermo9000) June 9, 2018
If you’re not on a mount, you’re not mounted, unless a rule says otherwise. 🐎 #DnD https://t.co/w1OBUoiQUE

I amuse myself very easily.

You heard it here first: Centaurs have to ride horses to use a lance.
I will say, though, all the various questions and feedback I’ve seen come in about the centaur race is REALLY VALUABLE for anyone making their own interpretation of a centauroid race Being on a mount doesn’t necessarily mean you’re on a horse.

Yeah, this is one where I, as DM, would rule differently. Perhaps house-rule that you must move at least 30 feet to use the lance properly. Or use a pike.
