What #dnd mechanics are useful for "pulling aggro"? I have goading attack, compelled duel, ancestral protector… What else?

I don’t think we need a mechanic for agro. If the story and circumstances allow it, we can change a monsters focus. An intimidation or performance check can probably accomplish it. 4e had this wired in and I felt it took away from the DMs ability to steer the story. #dnd https://t.co/EgBbM39iiD

Allowing players to "pull aggro" exists in 5e, as M.T. said. A player choosing access to such a mechanic is telling you, the DM, what that player wants "the fiction" to be. I've seen too many DMs focus fire in ways that seem counter to "the fiction" to think it's good alone.

Being able to read this situation is also a DM experience issue, though. Design can facilitate this learning.
