What would be your top three pieces of advice for running great tier 3 and 4 D&D campaigns? #dnd 1. Know your party. Actually run the numbers on how much damage they can produce/absorb in a round, compare that to damage output/hp totals in encounters. It's like cheating. CR is the TPK check, knowing the PCs' actual capabilities is how you tailor encounters.

2. The story matters. Connect the characters to the world and the ultimate story and a lot of the mechanics take a back seat, or at least get out of the way.
3. Don't be afraid to hit hard. It's okay for a non-boss encounter to hold very high CR monsters, especially if they make sense given the story previously mentioned. At the same time, don't sweat not always challenging them. They've earned their power, let them flex it.3/3
