When you play a character in a #TTRPG what helps you inhabit that person? #DnD

A voice of some sort helps. Doesn’t have to be a full on impression, even just a quirk or quality works for me.
Also helps for me to have an illustration, or other media representation of the character or their inspiration.Since I see @MTD_Jake in here I'll say I work it Drown by making a hollow personality his whole personality and trying to show that through tone (one tone only) and word choice (as few as possible). 😂

In hindsight, this is DEFINITELY a character originally built for a one-shot who I would have done slightly different for an ongoing campaign. Whoospie-doodle.

Changes in my voice from the subtle to the dramatic. Speaking in the first person when addressing other characters or the NPCs. A single recognizable gesture or mannerism that's used frequently enough to be identifiable without becoming annoying.

I am SO self-conscious about it, but I've found having a separate voice (even if it's just a slight vocal inflection) really helps me BE my character.
Establishing relationships with the other characters in the party also helps me with MY character.
