@SageAdviceDnD Following just the recent question (asked not by me) about where mortals who embrace no gods go I wanna ask mine part of it.
Where will KIDS souls go if they died young and do not understad nor follow gods?
Thought about that answer is "the Wall terrifies" me.— Viktor Gray (@VikGray) December 9, 2019
DMG page 24 talks about what happens to a dead creature's soul.
It departs to its deity's Outer Plane, or if it didn't worship a deity, the plane that corresponds to its alignment.
"What is a child's alignment" is a deep philosophical question for DMs. #dnd #WotcStaff https://t.co/5wCZfLlt05

Just imagine a child that died of hunger on the streets and their current alighnment is chaotic evil, because they’ve never seen anything good. WHILE if they have ever had a future they would’ve be able to maybe find themselves a better life and become better in heart That is a terribly sad thought, but holds with the idea of death and the afterlife work in D&D in general. A chaotic evil person who dies likely ends up in the Abyss.
Just… extra pathos when applied to children. Which checks out.

I thought the Wall was for the False who had been Unfaithful to their deity, while the Faithless had their own city in the Outlands?

Unless you’re in the Forgotten Realms, when those who do not worship a particular deity are instead interred into the Wall of the Faithless for all eternity, because souls must actively petition to be let into their god’s afterlife.
Which is, frankly, grim. But are the Forgotten Realms outer planes a great wheel, or a tree? 🤷♂️— Dan Dillon 👥 (@Dan_Dillon_1) December 10, 2019
This is a great illustration of my point: stuff has changed a bunch over time, or not! Use what brings your table the most fun!

I’ve been having fun in a current game sussing out where the souls of vampire’s and their victims come from. Vampires being soulless, that means the dead person’s soul does not return to their body as a vampire, so where is it? Are they soulless? How does being undead affect that whole thing? Is a ghost the person's soul or something else?
Lots of gray area here to play with, and vary by campaign world, etc.
